An engagement photoshoot in Edinburgh Old Town had been on my list for the longest time! My main areas are Brighton and London, which are a bit of a journey away, but I come to Edinburgh every summer for the Fringe. When me and my couple Thao and Sartaz, whose wedding I'm capturing this September, were discussing the ideas for their engagement shoot, they briefly mentioned how special Edinburgh is for their story, and I said "Why not"! When the dates of my trip there were settled, I'd let them know and logistically it worked out perfectly.
We started the shoot at 6am on a Sunday - it was the only time that we could avoid the massive crowds during the Fringe, buy thankfully, the lighting was already very soft and dreamy, and it was not chilly at all for a mid-August early morning in Scotland.
I had a route prepared for us in advance, and we had about 2 hours to visit all the nooks and closes that I had on my mind, which were on my list of the best photoshoot locations. A year ago I made a blog post with a list of those, and finally, I could actually make it happen for one of my couples!
We started at the border of the Edinburgh station and Old Town - Cockburn street. We walked up towards the Royal Mile, stopping at a few stunning staircase for some quick shots, and then headed to St Giles Cathedral, which is particularly magnificent in the morning light. We also used the area around - near the Supreme Courts, for some intimate cinematic shots. And before continuing to the classic location - West Bow through the Upper Bow, as well as the viewing point above the street, we absolutely had to go to Makars' Court, a bit hidden down the Lady Stair's Close - it's straight out of a movie!
After that and a quick walk through the Grassmarket, we ended up at the Vennel Viewpoint of the Edinburgh Castle, which is such a magical place - it feels like a time travel back to the 18-19th centuries, as nothing reminds us of modern times there.
As we were about to finish the shoot, we had a quick stroll to the Candlemaker Row for its moody architecture and perfect cobbled streets.
I'm so happy to have finally captured a love story in one of my most favourite cities. I can't wait to be back for more shoots! Hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed capturing them <3
