Family Photoshoot at the Seaside

This photoshoot took place at Whitstable beachfront in Kent - a place that holds a special place in this family's heart. It was here, a year prior to this session, that their daughter saw the sea for the first time. The family returns often for beach walks and summer swims, so I wanted to capture exactly that - what they would do on a regular beach day.

We met a couple of hours before sunset, and I set the scene for what I had in mind: letting the child take the reins and allowing us to follow her lead. The variety of moments this gave me to capture felt endless (the little one was moving on to the next activity before her parents could even catch up :D). We explored the seashore, searched for shells and interesting stones, played hide and seek among the colorful beach huts, rolled in the grass, counted the waves and clouds, jumped on wave breakers, ran around, and just had fun.

I absolutely loved how the parents seemed to step into their child's world—letting go and taking it all in with genuine interest and curiosity. There's something uniquely powerful about capturing a moment in the life of a family, especially through the eyes of a child. With each passing day, they are not the same—they grow so quickly. For the parents, it must feel like a bittersweet longing to freeze the moment, just for a little longer.

I was so honored to make this day a more tangible memory in their lives with these honest, cinematic and full of life photos.
